How to reach out to God

Friend, no matter who you are, where you've been, or what you've done, you are within His reach!

God is reaching out to you!

God has reached out to the world by sending His own Son (Jesus). This proves His great love for you. He wants to give you life and peace.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

Our Problem (Sin) has separated us from God.

Sin blocks you from reaching God. It keeps you from knowing God personally and it will keep you from going to Heaven. This is because God is Holy and punishes all sinners.

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

Being a “good person”, “moral”, or “religious” will never reach beyond the gap that exists between you and God because the sins you’ve committed remain in the way.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death (Proverbs 14:12).

It’s not that God can’t hear or doesn’t have the power to change people…

Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden his face from you, so that He will not hear (Isaiah 59:1-2).

…but as long as your sin remains, you cannot have a relation-ship with your Creator. Questions that arise when one begins to understand his or her guilt in sin are:

What a problem; how can I get free of my sin? What about God’s love and Jesus? What now?

The only hope for you is for you to realize God has taken the initiative to reach out to you by placing your sin upon Christ.

Christ paid the penalty for your sin. This means that there is nothing you can “do” to save yourself. Jesus is God’s way of dealing with your sin. The reaching you do is not self-effort, but simply reaching out to receive His eternal life as a free gift. You totally don’t deserve it, but that’s the point. You can be saved only by God’s grace (undeserved favor).

For by Grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).

A person can know all of that and still go to hell. You must reach out in faith (total trust and surrender), depending upon Christ alone for the removal of your sins. Below, the acronym R.E.A.C.H. will help you understand the nature of this faith commitment.

How to reach to God and receive eternal life by faith…R.E.A.C.H.

Repent (turn) from your sin knowing that it separates you from Holy God. This is a change of mind where you tell Jesus you are willing to give up the control of your sinful life and let Him be in charge.

Note: This is not a decision to never sin again, for that would be impossible. Rather, it is a decision to turn away from your love of sin and self and turn to Christ for the mercy of God.

Jesus said, “…Unless you repent you will all likewise per-ish” (Luke 13:3b).

Embrace the truth that Jesus Christ is God’s Son who died, rose from the dead, and is the only way to Heaven.

Jesus said, “ I am the way the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father but by me” (John 14:6).

The Apostle Paul said, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

From these Scriptures it is clear that a person must see Christ as their only hope in order to go to Heaven. One who has a repentant heart will see all other avenues to God as hopeless and mere wicked inventions of men.

Accept by faith Christ’s free gift of eternal life, realizing that you can’t save yourself.

For by Grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. This is telling Him you are His and that He alone has your trust concerning your eternal destiny and the present control of your life.

See Romans 10:9 under “E”.

A Sample Sinner’s Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus,

I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that you died for my sins and you rose again. I believe you are the Son of God. I turn from my sin. I now accept your free gift of eternal life. Come into my life and take control being my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me, and help me to never be ashamed of you.*

In Your name, Jesus, I pray.

Amen.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15).

Have confidence in your heart that you have been changed. If you prayed a sincere, simple prayer, reflecting the above scriptures, then you are forever saved and on your way to Heaven!

These things have I written to you who believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God (1 John 5:13).

*Praying the words does not save you. Christ saves you. The prayer is your way of expressing your surrender to Christ. He is Lord and you will either acknowledge now by repentance and faith or at the Judgment as an object of his wrath. If you reject now, the Scripture says concerning you, “He who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil” (John 3:18-19).
