Why Fellowship Groups? - by our Pastor,  Dr. Ashley E. Ray.

I have always been a people person.  I like to be around and interact with people.  I am reminded that the gospel of Christ was not given to us in a vacuum, but God became a man and lived, died and rose again in the midst of His relationships.  For this and many other reasons, I believe in Fellowship Groups.  Sunday school, small groups, Bible fellowship, no matter what you call it, is proven as the most effective means of winning people to Christ. Why? Relationships!  90% of the people who get involved with a Fellowship Group remain as active members of the church, while only 50% remain active who have not connected with a class. Paul lifted up Jesus' example of self-sacrifice after he commanded the church at Philippi, "Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also the interest of others" (Philippians 2:4).  It should be obvious that obedience to this type of thoughtfulness is possible on through ministry in a smaller group than the worship service.  Thom Rainer, in his book Effective Evangelistic Churches, studied 576 churches that were growing through conversions/baptisms.  Many biblical factors referenced as ingredients for their faithfulness but noteworthy is the fact that only 2 of those churches did not have what would classify as Fellowship Group (Sunday morning, on-campus, age-graded, curriculum driven, care-giving, outreach oriented, small groups). I hope you are convinced. More importantly, I hope you will allow Christ to develop your relationships here and that each class at Ridgeway will go after people, who do not have the ultimate relationship with Christ.
